During the Des Moines Black Lives Matter protest at the Capitol on Saturday, a handful of cars drove past disrupting the event. While the vehicles were going through the public street, Matthew Bruce ripped the flags off the car and destroyed someone else’s privately owned property.
State troopers were at the event, but did nothing about the destruction of someone else’s private property.
An Ames man was sentenced to 16 years in prison after setting a church’s LGBTQ flag on fire. Adolfo Martinez was found guilty of third-degree arson in violation of individual rights — hate crime, third-degree harassment and reckless use of fire as a habitual offender. Martinez stole the pride banner and burned it early June 11, 2019.
