On Thursday, Senate Republicans essentially allowed the Democrats to raise the debt ceiling when 14 of them voted in favor of closing debate on the bill.
Republicans allowed the Democrats to bypass the 60-vote legislative filibuster on the bill to raise the debt ceiling while allowing the Democrats to raise it on their own.
Senator Joni Ernst was one of those 14 Republicans to take the vote.
Of those 14 senators, just two are running for re-election in 2022. Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska is often a less-than-conservative Republican. Senator John Thune is in leadership and Sen. Mitch McConnell’s second-in-command.
The debt ceiling is expected to be raised on Dec. 15.
