The annual defense bill – the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) – includes a number of the critically important bipartisan efforts U.S. Senators Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) worked on to prevent military sexual assault and hold perpetrators accountable. However, this year’s NDAA does not include the entirety of Ernst’s Military Justice Improvement and Increasing Prevention Act (MJIIPA) – a bill the Senate Armed Services Committee passed earlier this year and 65 senators support – and Ernst and her colleagues are calling for a Senate floor vote on the full measure.
