Congressman Clay Higgins of Louisiana pressed FBI Director Christopher Wray during a hearing on Tuesday. Higgins asked simply if the FBI had confidential human sources embedded within the Jan. 6 protestors on Jan. 6.

“Well congressman, as I’m sure you can appreciate, I have to be very careful about what I can say…” Wray said.

Higgins asked if that is still the case nearly two years after the fact.

“About when we do and do not, and where we have and have not used confidential human sources,” Wray said. “But to the extent that there is a suggestion for example that the FBI’s confidential human sources or FBI employees in some way instigated or orchestrated January 6 — that’s categorically false.”

Higgins asked if the FBI had confidential human sources dressed as Trump supporters inside the Capitol on Jan. 6 prior to the doors being open.

“Again, I have to be very careful,” Wray started before being cut off by Higgins.

“It should be a no,” Higgins exclaimed. “Can you not tell the American people, ‘No, we did not have confidential human sources dressed as Trump supporters positioned inside the Capitol on January 6?'”

Wray said nothing should be read into his decision not to share information regarding confidential human sources.
