While in the United States Senate, Vice President Kamala Harris was one of the most vocal opponents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. Now, as “border czar,” it may not be hard to see why.
Illegal immigration has hampered America in the first term of President Joe Biden. Not just economically, but also through various violent crimes committed by individuals with zero right to be in the country at all.
In 2018, Harris called for major changes to ICE.
“I think there’s no question that we’ve got to critically reexamine ICE and its role and the way that it is being administered and the work it is doing,” she said. “And we need to probably think about starting from scratch.”
Harris had previously told MSNBC that ICE has a “purpose, role” and that it “should exist.” While serving as a DA in San Francisco, Harris supported a city policy that turned young immigrants over to ICE if they were arrested or accused of committing a felony.
In the past, Harris called President Donald J. Trump’s border wall a “medieval vanity project.”
