Republican Rep. Ann Meyer let an Iowan know that while she is against federal mandates and doesn’t believe the federal government has a right to meddle in private business, she also does not think a state government has a right to meddle in private business.
An Iowan reached out to some of the legislators yet to respond to Informed Choice Iowa’s brief two-question survey on vaccine mandates.
“While I’m disappointed some companies chose to mandate COVID vaccines, they are within their right, and the state should not intervene,” Meyer wrote. “I do think these businesses have the right to determine the qualifications of their employees.”
As a nurse who is married to a physician, Meyer said she trusts what every doctor she works with has advocated for with COVID vaccines.
“Right now, in Iowa, 82 percent of COVID patients in hospital ICU beds are unvaccinated,” she said.
As for campaign contributions from medical PACs and other parties who oppose banning vaccine mandates, Meyer said those contributions do not influence her decisions.
“My medical background and communication with most of my constituents and respected medical community members influence my decisions,” she said.
