Enthusiasm for Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has never been higher. Ever. There is no way. And it all resonates from one major place — parental rights in education.

Last week Reynolds submitted her petitions to be on the ballot in 2022. In all, she submitted about 16,000 signatures. That is thousands more than anyone else this cycle, thus far. It is more than four times the requirement. It includes more than 100 signatures from all 99 counties.

She has some incredible accomplishments under her belt — perhaps most notably is the tax reform bill she signed this year — but there is one issue, in particular, she has taken head-on and that is parental rights in education.

Reynolds has proposed legislation the last two years to provide Education Savings Accounts for Iowa families. She did what she could to encourage schools to return to in-person learning during COVID. She eventually signed a law banning mask mandates in schools. She took a public position against sexually explicit, inappropriate, vulgar books being in school libraries. She even read a portion of one to KCCI during an interview.

And recently, she signed a bill to Protect Women’s Sports. This bill, by the way, received her biggest applause of the night during her re-election announcement the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

All of that has been done in response to parents who were hoping someone, somewhere would listen to them and hear their concerns.

Their governor heard them. Their governor listened. And their governor is showing concerned Iowa parents that their concerns are her concerns. They’re not alone. She is right there with them when it comes to education in Iowa.

She is looking out for them, and there is no doubt that come November, they’ll be looking out for her.
