The 118th Senate, which first convened more than two months ago, has passed a sum total of six bills that carry the force of law. All six pieces of legislation were led and introduced by Republican senators, three of which were spearheaded by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa).

“When we do come into session, the Senate only works from Monday evening to Thursday morning. The Schumer Senate has done next to nothing for the American people, but what has gotten done is thanks to the Republican minority. With all the problems facing our country, we ought to be writing and debating legislation while putting our fiscal house in order. Instead, we work half weeks,” Grassley said.

Grassley is president pro tempore emeritus and the most senior member of the Senate.

The six bills passed since the 118th Congress was seated on January 3, 2023 are:

  • S.724 – the Preventing Child Sex Abuse Act of 2023 – led by Grassley
  • S.645 – the Fighting Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Act of 2023 – led by Grassley
  • S.619 – the COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023 – led by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.)
  • S.227 – the Improving Access to Our Courts Act – led by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas)
  • S.223 – a bill to amend the Controlled Substances Act – led by Grassley
  • S.758 the Moving Americans Privacy Protection Act – led by Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.)
