The Iowa American Legion has been working for the last year to rename Highway 20 the Iowa Patriots Memorial Highway. However, there is a national movement to name Highway 20 the Medal of Honor Highway.
That required an amendment in the House Transportation Committee on Tuesday as the members approved the amendment to replace Iowa Patriots Memorial Highway with Medal of Honor Highway.
Oreon, Idaho, Wyoming and Nebraska have already made the change.
The bill advanced out of committee with unanimous support.
