A recording of a Zoom video conference between physicians and a marketing director at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center shows the team discussing how to make hospitals more “scary to the public.”
“Maybe we need to be completely a little bit more scary to the public,” said one woman.
She noted many people are hospitalized post-COVID but they aren’t being counted in the COVID numbers.
Patients who are still in the hospital, off the COVID floor, but still in the hospital for different reasons.
Those patients, another member said, are counted as recovered but they’re still considered a COVID patient.

The staffer said the hospital needs to be more blunt and forceful.
“We have to say something coming out, you know, you don’t get vaccinated, you know you’re going to die,” she said. “Let’s just be really blunt with these people.”
