Mohammed, an Afghan interpreter who played a vital role in President Joe Biden was stranded in Afghanistan as a United States Senator in 2008, is now asking for Biden’s help for his own rescue.
Mohammed is credited for helping Biden get out of Afghanistan in 2008, along with Senators John Kerry and Chuck Hagel. The Black Hawk helicopters they were in were forced to make emergency landings due to blizzard conditions 20 miles from Bagram Air Base.
Mohammed has talked with the Wall Street Journal and had a simple message for Biden:
“Hello Mr. President: Save me and my family. Don’t forget me here.”
Mohammed and his four children are now hiding from the Taliban as he has been unable to get out of the country. He told the WSJ he cannot leave his house.
He tried escaping after Kabul fell, but Mohammed told the WSJ U.S. forces informed him only he could get past the gates — not his family.
Shawn O’Brien, an Army combat veteran, wrote that if Biden can only help one Afghan, he should choose Mohammed. Andrew Till, a lieutenant colonel, wrote that Mohammed’s “selfless service to our military men and women is just the kind of service I wish more Americans displayed.”
Ron Klain, the White House Chief of Staff, told MSNBC that the White House will cut through the red tape, find Mohammed and get him and the other SIVs out of Afghanistan.
