Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decisions in Trump v. Vance and Trump v. Mazars, regarding the president’s financial records:

“It’s a great day for the rule of law in America. These decisions uphold the rule of law in our country at the highest levels.

“In the Manhattan district attorney’s case, it is extraordinarily clear that the president is not above the law and he has the same rights ― no more or no less ― as any other citizen before a grand jury. In the case concerning Congress, I believe the court set the right criteria for the ability of Congress to access the president’s documents. We’ve never had a case like this before. In the past Congress and the president came to some sort of compromise resolution. It is likely that the criteria that the court sets forth will be the basis for these compromises. It’s important that these were 7-2 decisions.

“I give a lot of credit to Chief Justice Roberts for steering the court based on its institutional principles and values. I had the opportunity to work rather closely with John Roberts in the Microsoft appeal in the D.C. Circuit, and I found him to be an extraordinary lawyer and impressive person.

“It’s a great day to be an American and a great day to be a lawyer.”
