On Jan. 6, the Iowa Public Health Association took to Facebook to state:

“As we bear witness to the events in Washington unfold today, we are saddened for our democracy and we stand with our sisters and brothers of color, knowing we are also witnessing hypocrisy in real-time.

“Democracy is a tool of public health, racism is a threat to all.”

I was at the Capitol on Jan. 6 and I have no idea what the Iowa Public Health Association is talking about.

While Democrats have misled some to believe there was no tear gas, rubber bullets, flashbangs, etc. utilized on the protesters, that is completely untrue.

Tear gas was used. Rubber bullets were used. Flashbangs were utilized. A veteran was literally shot and killed inside the Capitol.

I fail to see how racism plays into any of this. Especially considering a number of the demonstrators were not white people.

It’s disappointing that the Iowa Public Health Association made a political statement that has nothing to do with public health and wasn’t based on reality.

It certainly makes it much more difficult to trust them when they say something that is more in their lane.
