Big Tech censorship was an issue that had the attention of Republicans after President Donald J. Trump was removed from social media while in office.
The Iowa Senate, led by Sen. Jake Chapman, passed a bill in 2021 addressing Big Tech censorship. Unfortunately, that legislation died in the Iowa House.
A year has come and gone, and the Iowa House has made zero effort to address the Big Tech censorship of Iowans.
It hasn’t even been a conversation, really. The Iowa Senate did its part, but unfortunately, it appears the Iowa House has no interest in standing up for Iowans’ free speech on social media.
The Hawkeye PAC, which is Sen. Chuck Grassley’s leadership PAC, donated $535,000 to the Iowa House Majority Fund for the 2020 elections. That doesn’t include the individual donations the Hawkeye PAC contributed to individual legislators.
Considering Big Tech has provided $148,000 to the Hawkeye PAC, perhaps that plays a role in the Iowa House’s decision to kill the Big Tech censorship bill.
It may, it may not. But the appearance certainly does not look good.
