On Wednesday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) subpoenaed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for information and documents regarding the mass release of illegal aliens into the United States and other related topics after failing to voluntarily comply with the Committee’s requests. DHS’s failure to produce the requested documents and information prevents the Committee from fulfilling its constitutional oversight obligations and obscures the magnitude of the border crisis from the American people.
Since January 20, 2021, the Biden Administration has released at least 4.7 million illegal aliens into the United States. According to press reports, on January 8, 2024, “when meeting privately with [Border Patrol] agents in Eagle Pass, Texas,” Secretary Mayorkas admitted to the high rate of illegal alien releases and acknowledged that more than 85 percent of illegal aliens encountered at the southwest border are being released into the interior of the country. The Committee wrote to Secretary Mayorkas requesting information about his mass release of illegal aliens into the country, but DHS has continued to stonewall the Committee.
