Every once in a while I see a poll that catches my attention, leave my computer and forget to highlight it. Such is the case here. But alas, I have returned to the poll and believe it is indeed worth highlighting.
Did you know, according to a poll from the Pew Research Center, only 19 percent of Biden supporters (obviously it’s an old poll because nobody is searching for Biden supporters to poll on anything any more) agreed with the statement that “society is better off if people make marriage and having children a priority.”
Just 19 percent of Biden supporters said prioritizing marriage and having kids is better for society.
If you’re curious, 59 percent of Trump supporters agreed with the statement. And if you’re even more curious, in both camps (Biden supporters and Trump supporters), the statement rang more true for men.
Male Biden supporters agreed at 22 percent while female Biden supporters agreed at 16 percent. Among Trump supporters, 63 percent of men agreed while 54 percent of women agreed.
In total, just 39 percent of all voters said society is better off if people make marriage and having children a priority.
For the last decade, there’s been little change among Republican-leaning Americans regarding their attitudes toward prioritizing marriage and having children. However, among Democrats, it has dropped from 28 percent in 2016 to 20 percent in 2020 and 19 percent now.
This is a stark contrast. And one that should give pause to all of us.
