U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. reintroduced the Justice for Angels Families Act, legislation that would amend the Crime Victims Fund (CVF) to expand coverage for angel families, who are immediate relatives of victims of homicide by an illegal immigrant, including drunk driving accidents.
This legislation would also reinstate and codify the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which was established by an Executive Order signed by President Trump in 2017. The VOICE office helps victims and their families who have been impacted by crimes committed by illegal immigrants.
“The Biden administration has failed to secure our nation’s borders, creating a historic crisis that has made every community less safe. Under Biden’s watch, we have had record numbers of migrants crossing who have been listed on the FBI’s terrorist watchlist, and a historic number of ‘gotaways’ now living in the shadows,” Senator Marshall said. “As we continue to fight for this administration to secure our nation’s borders, there has been irreversible damage and pain that Angel Families have to live with for the rest of their lives. These families are the true victims of this Administration’s failures, and as I fight for justice and restoring law and order, they must get the help and support they need.”
“The pain and heartbreak of Angel Families is something that no one should have to face. Tragedies like these should not be allowed to happen,” Senator Budd said. “That’s why I support the Justice for Angel Families Act, which not only expands funds to the families of the victims who were killed by illegal immigrants, but it reinstates the Trump administration’s initiative to track and report on crimes committed by individuals who should not be in our country in the first place.”
“Biden’s open border policy has allowed countless criminals to walk right into our country, where they continue to commit acts of violence,” Senator Braun said. “The reestablishment of the VOICE office is vital to assisting angel families by connecting them with essential services, and guaranteeing that the illegal aliens that have harmed their families are swiftly deported. It’s time we support angel families, rather than ignoring them.”
“Angel families’ grief after losing a loved one is a direct result of the Biden administration’s inability to secure the border and prevent violent criminals from coming to our country illegally,” Senator Cramer said. “The least we can do for these families is allow them access to compensation for their suffering.”
