White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is hoping Americans believe her rather than their own two eyes. Despite photos and videos from the border showing an out-of-control situation, KJP is claiming the border is not open.
Just before the Supreme Court paused the end of Title 42 until the Tuesday after Christmas, KJP said the southern border is not “open.” More than that, she said anyone who claims it is open is helping the Mexican cartels who engage in human trafficking.
“I want to be very clear here,” Jean-Pierre said. “The fact is that the removal of Title 42 does not mean the border is open. Anyone who suggests otherwise is simply doing the work of these smugglers who, again, are spreading misinformation, and which are — which is very dangerous.”
Perhaps KJP doesn’t understand what “open” and “closed” means. Border Patrol numbers show it is encountering about 200,000 migrants per month. Those individuals are apprehended, processed and released into the country.
On one weekend earlier this month — Dec. 9-11 — agents encountered more than 7,000 migrants in the El Paso sector. They were forced to release hundreds of the into the streets of El Paso to clear room in the facility used for processing new arrivals.
Despite KJP’s claims regarding the border, Biden’s own Department of Homeland Security estimates daily illegal crossings may more than double from 7,000 per day to 15,000 per day if Title 42 is terminated.
