I don’t know about you, but I’ve never watched so much MSNBC and CNN as I did on Election Night and the day after the election. What surprised me was the amount of flattery heaped on outlets like The Iowa Standard.
Maybe you all missed it. But take a look at some of the things mainstream media said about “alternative” media after the election.
This was my favorite as it came from CNN on Election Night before Trump was the official winner but after it was clear he would be victorious.
“Look, we’re in a completely different media universe than we were in 2012 or 2010. We don’t know where people are getting their news…When we talked to the campaign they’d always be like are we reaching people? And that is a media problem…Some of the reasons why newspapers aren’t endorsing are complicated and scary, but some of the reason why is because it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t move the needle. Newspaper endorsements used to really matter. Like a decade ago, two decades ago.
“We have had a seismic shift in the way that people read news, watch television. I think we have to look at also sort of a level of disinformation, misinformation that people are getting and what that looks like.”
Here are some other highlights:
“The way people are receiving information, there are platforms that many people have never even heard of that are massive communicators to voters.” (Jen Psaki, MSNBC)
“Maybe it’s not so much Democrats’ policies or messaging or the words that they use specifically, but there is an entire right-wing media ecosystem that doesn’t exist on the Left and it does not exist in the center or mainstream and people are getting their information in very different ways now.” (CNN)
“All of us have to come to grips with legacy media is just not as important as it thinks it is. The way people get information has shattered into 20, 30 different pieces.” (MSBNC)
“We got beat because the Republicans and conservatives built a different media system that had to do with online that had to do with podcasts that had to do with streaming platforms. We were laughing at them. We thought they were idiots. It turned out we were idiots. We woke up in a body bag because while we were knocking on doors they were making (cell phones) into 24 hours a day political weapons themselves.” (Van Jones, CNN)
In other words, the mainstream, legacy media is freaking out because it isn’t controlling the message. For the first time in decades, the media is losing control over what voters here and, more importantly, how they hear it!
This week is a good example. Both The Iowa Standard and The Iowa State Daily reported about Will Thomas’s visit to Iowa State. But how did we do it? Well, you can check it out for yourselves.
Iowa State Daily: Lia Thomas speaks on trans athlete rights and the future of sports
The Iowa Standard: WILL ‘LIA’ THOMAS VISITS ISU: Laws protecting women’s sports aren’t stealing opportunities, men competing in women’s sports are
Same topic. Same event. Incredibly different approaches. We choose accuracy.
Yet within 24 hours, Google flagged the article as containing dangerous or derogatory content. The page was demonetized.
Make no mistake — Big Tech and legacy media does not want alternative media to exist.
Thanks to you and your support, together we are disrupting their destruction of our country.
I hope you recognize the impact we are having. Most days even though this is literally my life, I don’t think I even understand the impact we’re having. And in the next week I’m going to try to put something together about the impact we’ve had at the state level over the last six years.
I firmly believe one of the main reasons President Trump won the 2024 Election is because alternative media exists. I mean, if this was two decades ago, and most voters were relying on CBS and NBC and CNN and ABC and all those outlets for political news, it’s hard to envision how Trump wouldn’t have been trounced.
It’s amazing what we’re capable of when we’re allowed to have a voice. And the result of us having a voice is why they’re so hellbent on shutting us up and shutting us down.
