In an interesting twist to the Third District Congressional Republican Primary, Bryan Jack Holder weighed in on the race.
Holder has run for the seat as a Libertarian in the past and is seemingly the Libertarian candidate for the seat again in 2020.
He announced on Monday that he is supporting Bill Schafer in the Republican Primary.
“It’s wonderful that the colonel has decided to run for Congress as I’ve done several times now,” Holder said. “But he hasn’t gotten a fair shake from the Republican Party of Iowa. The Republican Party establishment sort of rallied around David since David was the two-time incumbent and they sort of think it was a fluke that David lost two years ago to Democrat Cindy Axne. So, I’m supporting Col. Schafer.”
Now, while Holder is encouraging his Republican friends to vote for Schafer, he will not be since he is a registered Libertarian.
“It’s unfortunate they haven’t had any debates,” Holder said. “Congressman Young’s campaign manager told the media that there is no reason to have any debates or any forums between David Young and Col. Schafer. Well, I think that sort of goes against everything we stand for here in the state of Iowa and things we stand for as Americans. We should be able to participate in forums and debates and all the candidates on the ballot should be able to participate.”
Today I endorse my friend Colonel Bill Schafer (US Army- Retired) in the Republican Primary for Iowa's 3rd Congressional District on June 2nd, 2020. He's an American by Birth, Soldier by Profession and Iowan by Choice. Thank you for running for US House in the Republican Primary and I wish you the very best of luck in your campaign! <3
