Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy defended the shooting of an unarmed protestor during the Jan. 6 demonstration at the Capitol in 2021.
McCarthy was asked if he agreed with Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene that Ashli Babbitt was murdered or if the Capitol Police Officer, Michael Byrd, simply did his job.
“I think the police officer did his job,” McCarthy answered.
Babbitt, mind you, was a 35-year-old Air Force veteran who didn’t have a weapon or pose any imminent threat to anyone. Byrd had previously left his service weapon in a Capitol bathroom.
President Donald J. Trump said he “totally” disagrees with McCarthy and that Byrd is a “thug” who had a “very checkered past.”
Trump said he wasn’t just doing his job when he shot and killed “Great Patriot” Ashli Babbitt at point-blank range.
“Despite trying to keep him anonymous, shielded and protected, this MISFIT proudly showed up on NBC Fake Nightly News ‘bragging’ about the killing,” Trump wrote. “He was not a hero but a COWARD, who wanted to show how tough he was. ASHLI BABBITT WAS MURDERED!!!”
