On Feb. 4th, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02) released the following statement after voting NO on H.R. 4521, the America COMPETES Act:
“The America COMPETES Act is another attempt by the majority to make a bipartisan issue partisan. The threats from the Chinese Communist Party grow every day, and I have been proud to support serious pieces of legislation to address those threats. This bill does little to address China’s rise or increase American competitiveness. Instead, it gives billions to the United Nations Green Climate Fund, extends the COVID-19 national emergency until as late as 2025, does not hold China accountable for lying to the world about a global pandemic, and calls on China to immediately release two Canadians held in detention, despite the fact they were released months ago. Congress can easily pass strong bipartisan bills to counter China and I hope we can act quickly for the sake of our national security.”
