On Monday, March 7th, 2022, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02) released the following statement after returning from her third trip to the U.S.-Mexico border since becoming a member of Congress:

Border patrol is doing everything they can to keep our communities safe, but they are overwhelmed and lack the support and resources they need to be successful. These brave men and women are working night and day and have done remarkable work, but I worry about the number of drugs and people slipping through the cracks. We are seeing record high encounters, drug seizures, and illegal crossings as we approach spring when historically migration increases and the situation will only worsen. While the majority of our attention is rightfully focused on Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, we should also be paying attention to the crisis at our own border. We can and must do both in order to secure a better future for our children.
