Monticello Superintendent Brian Jaeger told The Iowa Standard on Thursday evening that the decision to ban the phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” was his alone.
“This was not a school board decision as this falls under the Superindent’s scope of responsibility to make rules and decisions in accordance with the law and policy,” he said. “This is not a political statement and in no way does this limit our students’ rights to display or promote their political beliefs, slogans or candidates appropriately.”
Jaeger sent an email to families in the district on Wednesday evening letting parents know the phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” is not appropriate at school.
Jaeger explained the history of the phrase and noted that “Let’s Go Brandon” on anything means “F*** Joe Biden.”
“Schools obviously have the right to not allow inappropriate language, slogans or gestures,” Jaeger said. “It is common knowledge that ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ means ‘F*** Joe Biden’ and that language is not appropriate for a school setting.”
