***The drag queen was wrong. This event was not at a New York Catholic high school, it was part of a chapel at Grace Church School in downtown Manhattan, an independent Episcopalian. The school serves roughly 800 students from pre-K through 12th grade, and states it is committed to “inclusion,” “diversity,” and “antiracism.”***
Video has emerged from a chapel service at Grace Church School in downtown Manhattan. The school is an independent Episcopalian.
The drag queen who appeared wrote that he “literally” went to church to teach “the children.”
“A Catholic High School here in NYC invited me to their Pride Chapel. Visibility matters and I’m so honored to have had the chance to talk to you about my work as a LGBTQ+ Drag Queen Activist.”
Also in New York, a church celebrated Pride month by hosting drag queens at a worship service. The Park Church in Elmira hosted a “Worship is a Drag” event in June. It promoted the event with this flyer.
The service was held to “celebrate Pentecost, kick-off LGBTQ+ Pride Month and come to Christ’s table of love,” according to the church’s pastor J. Gary Brinn.
Brinn shared a message about the event, saying “just as there have always been queers, [there] has always been diversity in gender expression and affectional orientation, so there has always been diversity within Christianity.”
He dismissed the idea of God as a “white male.” Brinn wrote in a “church where older white men had absolute power, God acted like…an older white man with absolute power and a shocking fragility, for despite God’s supposed omnipotence, he was constantly offended that humans were not properly stroking his ego or following the rules he had implemented to micro-manage our lives.”
The pastor offered an “extravagant welcome to the LGBTQ+ community, not tolerance but celebration” on behalf of the church.
Brinn’s church bio describes him as a committed anti-racist, feminist and homosexual.
