Objections filed to Kuehl’s candidacy as veteran seeks to challenge Miller-Meeks

Three individuals filed an objection to Kyle Kuehl’s nomination petitions in Iowa’s First Congressional District. Kuehl is challenging Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

Kuehl needs 1,726 from the district to qualify for the ballot. That includes the need for 47 signatures from 10 counties each.

The objectors claimed pages of signatures should not count because they are filled out as:

Office Sought: US-1
Office District (if any): (left blank)

“There is no office called ‘US-1,'” the objectors wrote. “The election in question is for the position of U.S. Representative. Although other common descriptions of the position are surely sufficient (such as U.S. House of Representatives or Member of Congress), the description of the office as ‘US-1’ is unintelligible.”

If these sheets are thrown out, the objectors said Kuehl will drop below the legal threshold to get on the ballot.

The objectors also claim they’re aware of “at least” 11 nomination petition pages submitted by Kuehl where the county information was filled out after people had signed the page. They also take exception to eligible electors who signed the petitions who listed a PO Box, a partial address or an incorrect address.

They also claim that Kuehl submitted sheets that violated the single-county requirement.

The objection was filed by Krey Keeney of Warren County, Marshan Roth of Jefferson County and Jim Parcel of Scott County.

The objections will be heard at 10 a.m. on March 29.
