The Pennsylvania State Education Association has a couple of interesting webinars coming up in February. On Feb. 9, PSEA is hosting a webinar called “Speak Up! Confronting White Nationalism in the Classroom.” On Feb. 16, it is hosting one called “Critical Race Theory, Multi-Culturalism, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and Social Justice for Equity in Schools Today.”

Here is the description of the Feb. 9 webinar:

“Many young people have been spending unprecedented amounts of time alone online and away from the communities that give them a sense of belonging. With racist conspiracy theories about COVID-19 spreading widely and anxieties about racial justice protests mounting, white nationalist groups are taking advantage of this moment to target young people with racist, misogynistic and anti-Semitic rhetoric. This training will prepare educators to respond to such rhetoric — and the bigoted organizing behind it — when it makes its way into classrooms.”

The Feb. 16 webinar is described as delving into the differences between multiculturalism, Critical Race Theory and social justice. It will explore how educators can begin to implement and actualize a platform of multi-cultural curricula, culturally responsive pedagogy and social justice practices within the classroom.
