Republican Rep. Garrett Gobble made waves late last week with his criticism of Sen. Jake Chapman’s comments regarding sexually explicit, vulgar, inappropriate books being in Iowa school libraries. Gobble said that in his view, Chapman went “too far” in his criticisms.
However, on Tuesday, Gobble posted on Facebook that he wrapped up a meeting earlier in the day with parents from around the Des Moines area on the “important issue” on giving parents a greater say in their child’s education.
“They wanted to meet and discuss the ways we can ensure the books in our public schools are age-appropriate for their children,” Gobble said. “I think we all can agree that pornographic images of any kind do not belong in our public schools. It’s important that we hear from everyone — parents, teachers, administrators and students — to learn more about the processes currently in place and what legislative changes may be necessary.”
