Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) held her first telephone town hall last night and discussed a wide variety of issues with constituents from Iowa’s First District.

“I appreciate everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to participate in my first telephone town hall. It is important for me to be accessible and transparent and ensure my constituents know where I stand on issues that matter to them.

“My biggest takeaway from last night’s discussion reaffirmed what I’ve been hearing while traveling through Iowa’s First District over the last few weeks—Iowans need targeted COVID-19 relief as soon as possible. This will remain one of my top priorities. My team and I are also ready to help those who are trying to cut through frustrating bureaucratic red tape to receive direct payments or benefits that may have been delayed.

“I also received questions about H.R. 1, the Democrat plan to federalize our election system, which I will oppose if it comes to a vote on the Floor. I firmly believe we need to take steps to increase confidence in our elections and fix parts of our system that are broken. This legislation would only exacerbate existing concerns. It would force states to adopt same-day voter registration and even send taxpayer dollars to political candidates–this violates both our Constitution and taxpayers. I will continue prioritizing this and encouraging states to follow Iowa’s lead in adopting strong election security measures.

“We also talked about bringing more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to Iowa, tackling our mounting debt, tax policy, and other important issues. I can’t promise we will agree on every issue, but I can promise you’ll always know where I stand. I’d like to thank everyone who joined last night’s call and look forward to hosting another one soon.”
