As of today, 1,551,293 doses of Covid vaccine have been delivered in Iowa. 616,015 vaccination series have been completed. In Webster County, 6,953 vaccination series have been completed, an additional 5935 series have been initiated. Webster County’s 7-day positivity rate is 2%.

Governor Reynolds acknowledged the state’s rate has increased, and they have been mostly traced to spring break travel. Still, the state’s overall rate is 4.8%. Iowa is doing good, and Webster County is doing great! So many of our residents are getting vaccinated, and the numbers reflect that. CDC issued guidance several weeks ago that if you are fully vaccinated, it is okay to gather without masks.

THIS is what we’ve been working toward – a return to our normal lives.

Monday, April 5th all adults over 16 are eligible to receive the vaccine. Jim, Jake and I have all been vaccinated. If you have no contraindications, I would recommend everyone take the vaccine. It is safe and effective. In fact, new Pfizer research is showing 100% effectiveness!

That said, I’m concerned about something I’m seeing on social media that says “When the time comes, I 100% support mandatory vaccinations for everyone. If anyone refuses, they should be forced.”

I am the first person to encourage all my friends and family to get the vaccine (just ask them), but I do not support “forcing” or mandates. We live in the United States, and we have the right to refuse medical treatment, including prevention.

I have been thrilled to be administering vaccines at the Capitol with my friend Rep John Forbes. He is a pharmacist and set up this access for our coworkers, and I am thankful for his efforts!

I wish everyone a happy Easter! It’s the first major holiday we will not be spending with Jake as he is busy at school. As always, it’s my honor to represent you in Des Moines! If you are planning a visit to the Capitol, please let me know. I’d love to meet with you!
