Name: Rep. Mike Sexton, Republican (incumbent)
Office/District: State Representative District 10
Hometown: Rockwell City
Profession: Farmer / Entrepreneur
Why running for office: “The easiest answer for me is that I still enjoy what I do. I still enjoy representing my constituents in House District 10. When I’ve talked to people, I’ve just said when you wake up in the morning regretting that you have to go to the statehouse and you’re tired of the battles and all of the things that come with being an elected official, then it’s time to get out. At this point, I still enjoy it. And, I believe I do a good job for my constituents. So, that’s the basic reason that I’m seeking re-election.
“Really, ever since the first time I ran for office, I don’t have specific, big, personal agenda items. My big picture thing is less regulation, less government and more freedoms for Iowans. Those are my over-reaching fundamental reasons for being in office. I think when I have issues, whether it’s Second Amendment or bills that look to increase regulations or whatever, those are my guiding principles in order to maintain our freedoms and keep from regulating small businesses out of existence. I have a small business, my wife does, our farming is kind of a small business — I truly am a person who believes small business is a driver, and we really see that now with this virus going on. That’s what holds this country together.”
