The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation voted to award Sen. Mitt Romney the 2021 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for voting to convict President Donald J. Trump during the impeachment trial of 2020.
Romney became the first senator to vote to convict a president of his own party on impeachment charges.
Caroline Kennedy, daughter of JFK, said Romney’s commitment to the Constitution “makes him a worthy successor to the Senators who inspired my father to write Profiles in Courage.”
“He reminds us that our democracy depends on the courage, conscience and character of our elected officials,” she said.
The foundation’s website called Romney’s vote a “courageous stand” and “historic.”
