After Iowa was hit by a rare, destructive storm last week, Governor Reynolds promptly went to work assessing the damage and began coordinating a response effort with local officials and the federal government.

After working quickly to assess the damage from the massive derecho that left hundreds of thousands without power and millions of acres flattened, Governor Reynolds swiftly compiled an expedited Presidential Major Disaster Declaration to secure federal assistance. Sens. Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley were also on the ground and advocating for swift action from the Trump Administration.

Thanks to their close partnership with President Trump, in less than 24 hours after the request, he announced that the administration had approved the emergency declaration for Iowa, giving thousands of Iowans access to critical resources needed to rebuild and recover after last week’s devastating storm.

“Once again, it is comforting to know we have a true friend in the White House who will always have our backs,” said Jeff Kaufmann, Chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa. “Thank you Gov. Reynolds, Sens. Ernst and Grassley, and President Trump for taking swift and decisive action to give Iowans access to critical resources so we can begin to rebuild and recover from last week’s devastating derecho.”
