In the Muscatine County GOP digital forum Tuesday night, Mariannette Miller-Meeks was asked point-blank about her comments from October 2016 where she called Donald Trump a “liar” and “corrupt”:

Terry Schilling: “…I’d like her to articulate exactly how he is corrupt and what has he lied on?

Mariannette Miller-Meeks: “I think I said that Hillary Clinton was corrupt and a liar, and I was asked this in response to an Access Hollywood tape where there were very disparaging remarks made by then-candidate Donald Trump, and as a woman, as a female, and a Member of the Republican Party, they were comments that I thought were inappropriate at best. Granted it was a hot mic moment, but that was in reference to that comment…”

Schilling: “Real quick, your tweet, I actually have it right in front of me, it said both are just as corrupt and liars, I mean, is there corruption with President Trump? What has he lied about?”

Miller-Meeks: “I think that the rules were already made note that I don’t have to respond to your question. I’ve already responded to your question.”

Terry Schilling, the campaign manager for Bobby Schilling for Iowa, who participated as a surrogate in the forum last night in his dad’s place as he recovers from surgery, released the following statement:

“Mariannette’s tweet had nothing to do with the Access Hollywood video. She was asked, ‘do you believe Donald Trump is fit to be president?’ and she responded by saying that both he and Hillary Clinton are liars and corrupt. That might play well with limousine liberals and establishment lackeys, but it doesn’t fly with pro-Trump Republican voters in the Iowa 2nd District.”
