Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Iowa 2nd District, has accepted an invitation from WHO-TV 13 in Des Moines to debate against his pro-choice opponent Mariannette Miller-Meeks in person in studio on Wednesday, May 27th.
Miller-Meeks is under fire from Iowa conservatives and pro-life activists after video surfaced from a 2018 event showing her claiming she was “pro-choice” and stating that abortion is a decision “best left to providers, to doctors, and to patients.”
Bobby Schilling released the following statement:
“I’d like to thank WHO-TV 13 for stepping up to host this debate. Iowa voters deserve to hear the truth from Mariannette Miller-Meeks. Is she pro-choice like she said in 2018? If not, will she commit to pro-life legislation like the heartbeat bill? Conservatives want someone they can trust, and thus far in this campaign, Miller-Meeks has demonstrated that she’s nothing more than a typical wishy-washy establishment politician.
“So let’s have this debate, Mariannette. Let’s talk about the issues that Iowa Republicans care most about. Let’s give voters an opportunity to vet their GOP nominee, whether it be you or me. WHO-TV 13 is offering us a tremendous opportunity to speak to voters, and I look forward to it.”
