A Linn-Mar School Board member called Rachel Wall took to Facebook on Tuesday morning to inform her constituents on the purpose of public education. And in case there was any doubt, the Linn-Mar School Board member doesn’t think public education should cater to parents.

“The purpose of a public ed is not to teach kids what parents want. It is to teach them what society needs them to know. The client is not the parent, but the community.”

It is a brazen statement from a member of one of the most offensive school boards in the state. Linn-Mar adopted a policy for students grades 7-12 to create gender transition plans and keep them secret from parents.

Representative Eddie Andrews, a Republican, shared the post from Wall.

“Ouch. They’re saying the quiet part out loud now. Some people think they know better than the parents. But inf act, parents are in charge of their children’s education. If anyone wants to know why parents have been begging us to pass the Students First Act, here’s one more reason.”

Katie Meidlinger, a teacher in the district, said she couldn’t love Wall’s post more.
