Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer has promised a vote on the “Respect for Marriage Act” will take place in the coming weeks.

Conservative groups have sounded the alarm about this legislation since its inception, but especially after it passed the U.S. House.

Republican representatives from Iowa — Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks — voted in support of the bill, which codifies homosexual marriage, repeals the Defense of Marriage Act and forces every state to recognize whatever one state may consider “marriage.”

Zach Nunn, who is running in the Third District, also said he would have voted in support.

Catholic Vote is sharing the stance of Republican Senators on the bill. The group states that Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rob Portman and Thom Tillis are “definitive” yes votes. It rates Ron Johnson as “wavering,” though he has been publicly named as one of the five GOP senators who supports the move.

There’s a lengthy list of “leans yes” — and Sen. Joni Ernst is on it. She told CNN she is “keeping an open mind” about the legislation.

Other senators in Ernst’s company?

Sen. Roy Blunt
Sen. Kevin Cramer
Sen. Rick Scott
Sen. John Thune
Sen. Tommy Tuberville

Thirteen Republican Senators have said they oppose the bill. That list includes:

Sen. Mike Braun
Sen. Richard Burr
Sen. Ted Cruz
Sen. John Cornyn
Sen. Steve Daines
Sen. Lindsey Graham
Sen. Josh Hawley
Sen. Jim Inhofe
Sen. James Lankford
Sen. Mike Lee
Sen. Richard Shelby
Sen. Marco Rubio
Sen. Roger Wicker

Sen. Chuck Grassley is listed as not having responded, but Grassley is on record as saying homosexual marriage is the “law of the land” and he is not aware of any efforts to undo it.
