This week, as the Democratic National Convention kicks off, climate extremists like Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and my opponent, Theresa Greenfield, are taking aim at our very way of life in Iowa.

Democrats have quietly ignored the environmental failures of the Obama administration, such as the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. Yet, they keep reaffirming their promise of the Green New Deal and international deals that let major polluters, like China, off the hook.

The Green New Deal would raise taxes on some folks by as much as 70%, essentially ban animal agriculture, and eliminate cars powered by gasoline, effectively destroying Iowa’s ethanol industry.

Far-left liberal groups, with no regard to the importance of Iowa’s agriculture community which feeds and fuels the world, have embraced Greenfield as their candidate to tackle environmental issues. Groups like the League of Conservation Voters, National Resources Defense Action and Democracy for America, who support the Green New Deal, have shown their enthusiasm for Greenfield. The feeling appears to be mutual, despite the damage their policy ideas would do to Iowa.

Although Greenfield likes to keep the details of her policy positions close to the vest, endorsements from radical groups like these reveal just how much more she’s willing to tell DC-Liberals than Iowans.

If watching the Democrats promote the Green New Deal isn’t bad enough, Greenfield, who ran a real estate company called Colby Interest, will likely use this week as an opportunity to reaffirm her pledge of “getting back into our [environmental] international accords.”

Greenfield is referring to the deal that Barack Obama and John Kerry negotiated in France, which gave two of the world’s three biggest carbon polluters (China and India) an unfair advantage over the United States. Just like the Green New Deal, which saddled Americans with higher energy bills, this killed American jobs and let China off the hook.

Democrats preach the importance of taking urgent action on climate change, at the cost of American jobs and at the expense of our farmers. Yet Biden and Harris are jumping on one private plane after the next to get to their campaign events. Meanwhile, Greenfield’s family enriched themselves on oil investments that include connections to the Dakota Access Pipeline. The heartland of America must remember the true environmental motto of the Democrat Party is to do as I say, not as I do.

This week, Greenfield will try to have it both ways. She’ll celebrate her allegiance to major liberal environmental groups, and the radical ideas coming from her party, all while trying to dodge questions over the damage they would cause Iowa. But she can’t hide her association with the radical liberal party of Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Biden, and Harris. Despite anything she says to the contrary, it may as well be called the “Greenfield New Deal.”
