The Iowa Senate Judiciary Committee advanced House File 630 on Tuesday. The bill will strengthen penalties for human trafficking in the state of Iowa.
“This is an issue we’ve worked on for years,” said Republican Sen. Brad Zayn. “This is despicable. It’s disgusting. As far as I’m concerned, just throw the key away on all these people that are involved.”
Zaun noted Iowa is a hotbed for human trafficking, especially central Iowa, due to Interstate 80 and Interstate 35 crossing each other.
Zaun said he is happy about the bill and said it will make it tougher on “these despicable, low-life people” who are taking advantage of a lot of younger people as well as adults.
The bill, which has already passed through the Iowa House, was supported 17-0 in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
