Speaker of the Iowa House, Pat Grassley, said last week he submitted a letter to the Iowa Utilities Board asking them to reject the recent request by Navigator Pipeline.
Grassley said he did so after hearing from “many” of his constituents.
“I’ve been very clear that I am following this issue closely and that I am prepared to act when landowner rights are not being properly respected,” Grassley said.
In his letter, Grassley wrote that in his 16 years in the Iowa House, he has never heard more concerns from constituents related to a single issue than he has the CO2 pipeline project.
Grassley said Navigator’s request for a waiver of rules surrounding a company’s obligations prior to, and after consturction.
“This company’s request for a waiver to these rules, to my knowledge, is not common,” he wrote. “And it clearly displays their concern with protecting their bottom line over their duty to fairly work with landowners.”
