State Treasurer Roby Smith is encouraging Iowans to register for the College Savings Iowa giveaway while attending the State Fair. “There are 1,000 reasons to go to the Iowa State Fair, but let me add one more,” said Smith. “Visit the College Savings Iowa booth in the Varied Industries Building to register for our $1,000 College Savings Iowa giveaway! You do not need to have a current College Savings Iowa account to register; so, we hope all parents and grandparents who have a child under 18 come see us!”
In addition to free items, there will be temporary tattoos and a fun survey for kids with a variety of questions about what they think higher education costs and could be used for. College Savings Iowa experts will also be available at the booth to answer questions about the Plan. “Just imagine how an additional $1,000 could help a child in your life achieve their education dreams. Kids grow up fast! Give their future a jumpstart by saving today for their tomorrow,” Smith added.
College Savings Iowa is a 529 plan that allows anyone to save for future education expenses. Qualified withdrawals from an account can pay for expenses such as tuition, room and board, supplies, books and fees for attendance at qualified education institutions in the U.S. or abroad. Iowa taxpayers saving with College Savings Iowa can deduct up to $3,785 of their contributions per Beneficiary account from their state taxable income for 2023.
