U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) introduced the FEMA for America First Act to prevent parolees who are noncitizens and asylees and refugees who are not in the process of becoming Lawful Permanent Residents (green card status) from being eligible for FEMA benefits after a natural disaster.
“I do not support giving FEMA benefits to paroled noncitizens and the millions of asylees and refugees who have wrongfully invaded our country over the past four years. The Biden-Harris administration has been denying the FEMA applications of American citizens and simultaneously discriminating against Trump supporters while canvassing with disaster recovery resources. Meanwhile, noncitizens, including those who have been paroled into this country under the abused and unlawful Biden-Harris parole programs can receive FEMA benefits. This cannot stand,” said Rep. Steube. “My legislation ensures American citizens are rightfully served by our country’s federal disaster agency – not inadmissible aliens, whom Biden-Harris have illegally deemed parolees en masse or those Biden-Harris permitted to stay in the country with no intention of ever becoming lawful permanent residents.”
Rep. Steube’s bill modifies current law to ensure any noncitizen who applies for FEMA benefits is a lawful permanent resident and taxpayer, such as green card holder. It requires that asylees and refugees be in the process towards getting green card status in order to be eligible for FEMA benefits.
Under current law, a noncitizen paroled into the U.S. for at least one year for “urgent humanitarian purposes” is eligible for FEMA benefits. The Biden-Harris administration has abused parole programs in an effort to decrease their illegal alien crossings between ports of entry, while still releasing massive waves of otherwise inadmissible aliens into the country.
Since January 20, 2021, DHS has paroled more than two million inadmissible aliens into the interior and released roughly two million more with “Notices to Appear” (NTAs), according to the Committee on Homeland Security Majority.
