Preferred pronouns were sought in a seventh-grade class at Winterset Junior High School, according to a concerned parent.
Worth noting, schools are not required by law to share with parents a student’s preferred pronoun.
Republican Sen. Amy Sinclair, who chairs the Senate Education Committee, filed Senate File 80 last year. That bill would have required schools to provide written notification to parents or guardians if the student will be asked for their preferred pronouns.
In addition, once the survey happened, the bill would require schools to provide the student’s identification or survey response to the student’s parent or guardian upon request.
