Following Facebook’s decision to uphold its ban of President Donald J. Trump, voters now favor ending legal protections for social media companies.
Rasmussen Reports national phone and online survey just released this week finds 59 percent of likely U.S. voters believe operators like Facebook and Twitter are politically biased in the decisions they make.
Twenty-six percent disagree and believe these Big Tech companies edit their content in a fair and balanced way. Fifteen percent are not sure.
Section 230 provides Big Tech companies protection from legal liability. Fifty-five percent of voters favor proposals to remove these protections. One year ago it was only 33 percent of voters who favored the efforts.
Specific to Trump’s ban, 48 percent of voters oppose the decision while 41 percent support censoring the former President.
Sixty-two percent of Democrats support the ban on Trump, 67 percent of Republicans oppose it and 49 percent of unaffiliated voters oppose while 39 percent favor it.
