***Rep. Ashley Hinson is running for Congress in Iowa’s First Congressional District***

Rep. Ashley Hinson decided not to answer questions from The Iowa Standard on the abortion issue. Instead, her campaign sent a simple statement:

“Ashley’s pro-life voting record in the Iowa House speaks for itself. While Ashley has been very public about her support for women’s access to health care services, abortion is not healthcare. In Congress, Ashley will continue to be a pro-life representative which is why she has received the endorsement of the Susan B. Anthony List.”

Hinson voted in favor of Iowa’s heartbeat bill. She also voted for the 20-week abortion ban. In addition, she has voted to defund Planned Parenthood.

In 2017, Hinson discussed Planned Parenthood at a League of Women Voters forum.

Here are the questions as they were sent to Rep. Hinson’s campaign:

When do you believe life begins:

Describe your position on the abortion issue:

Why are you pro-life (if candidate considers self pro-life):

What protections should be given to defend an unborn baby’s constitutional rights:

How have you lived out and expressed your pro-life position in the past (doesn’t have to be political):

Should the courts have the final say on abortion:

Do you support any exceptions that allow for abortions:

Would you support exceptions for rape or incest (this question is included because while a candidate can be pro-life and against exceptions, it often happens that a pro-life bill will include exceptions for rape & incest. So, this question is put in place to give candidates who may say they’re pro-life without exceptions to say while that is true, if a bill came along to save unborn babies but included exceptions for rape or incest, they’d still support it and continue working toward their “ultimate goal.”):
