An Ames student was not allowed to enter the school without a mask on Friday morning. The student and his parent showed up to school without a mask and a religious exemption form to not wear a mask.

They were stopped at the door and not allowed in. The student had a choice to go home or wait in the main office while the religious exemption was reviewed by the Ames Community School District legal team.

“They’re going to have to wait in the main office,” a person tells them.

After a question from the parent about denying her child’s right to an education, the employee tells her if the student chooses to not wear a mask, he will be sitting in the office, yes.

He did not say how long it would take for the exemption to be reviewed.

More than an hour later, the kid is still waiting in the office.
