A Waukee parent spoke out at the Oct. 11 school board meeting after her 10-year-old son was presented with a video featuring a “suggested reading item” that’s about a boy discovering his homosexuality.

“Now, this is a topic that we explicitly told the school we did not want discussed with our children,” the parent said. “And as their parents, I think that’s our right. I would like to know where do we go from here if our wishes are not going to be respected? I didn’t realize that you guys, as a school district, could go above us and expose our children to content about sexual orientation and things like that that we have said we do not want to be part of their education at Waukee schools. I would just like you to let me know if you could.”

The student was presented with a video about a book called “The Best At It” and it was on the Iowa Children’s Choice List. The teacher presented “The Best At It” as a book to consider checking out.

The book follows an Indian-American homosexual kid “discovering himself and fighting with anxiety, homophobia and bullies,” according to Good Reads.

The librarian played the video for the class. When it mentioned the word “gay,” the student was immediately uncomfortable because his parents have told him that isn’t an appropriate conversation to have in a school setting.

This was the video shown to the kids:

The description of the book on the Iowa Children’s Choice Award list simply states:

“Starting middle school has Rahul feeling anxious. Following the advice of his grandfather — Find one thing you’re really good at and become the BEST at it — Rahul sets out to find out what makes him special, convinced that once he finds it the bullying will stop.”

The cover of the book clearly doesn’t include anything about homosexuality. In fact, it features a trophy and a football. It could easily be conceived to be a book about being the best at a sport. But it is just one more way to push the LGBTQ agenda to unsuspecting kids.

The parents just want other parents to know and be aware that these materials are available in the library.

  1. Anyone that leaves their kids in this school need to rethink what their job as a parent includes. Last I checked, PROTECTION was on the list. Parents get organized, hire away some teachers that also think PROTECTION is a parent’s job, and start homeschool pods. Somewhere out there, there must be some parents and teachers that actually care about protecting their children. And yes, there will be some sacrifice involved. We are talking about YOUR CHILDREN!!!!
