Over the weekend we reported on a display that promotes LGBTQ activism in the main hall of Timberline School in Waukee. It’s a school for grades 8-9.
Brad Buck, Waukee’s superintendent, said that the district strives every day to be a safe learning environment for its students and staff.
“Which includes being inclusive of all people,” he said. “The display you reference in your story, along with many of the other displays in our buildings, are created by student clubs and organizations. This specific display was created by the students in the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) club.”
Buck shared additional photos of other displays in the school.
“We support all students, staff and community members and believe everyone should be treated respectfully,” he said. “Student displays periodically turn over during the course of the school year and the same will be true for this display.”
