Conversations centered around absentee voting in Iowa will only increase as we near the general election. There are many valid concerns that have been voiced about absentee ballots.

One question I have, and I’ve asked a few people, is who will ensure that county auditors who use taxpayer money to send absentee ballot request forms to ALL eligible voters will indeed make sure to send an absentee ballot request form to ALL eligible voters?

If a county auditor is a Republican, what will stop him or her from accidentally not sending a few registered Democrats an absentee ballot request?

Or, if the county auditor is a Democrat, can Iowans be 100 percent sure that he or she will make sure a form is sent to every eligible Republican in the county?

It’s a worthy question.
