Young Americans for Freedom at Iowa State University will be planting 2,977 American flags to remember the lives lost during the terrorist attacks on 9/11/2001. This will be the 20th anniversary of 9/11, which means college freshmen were not even alive at the time.
Since 2003, Young Americans have planted over 12 million flags across college campuses through the 9/11: Never Forget Project.
“It is important that young people know the history of this event, whether they can remember it or not. Honoring those whose lives were horrifically stolen is a way we can come together with a strict zero-tolerance of terrorism. We need to encourage legislators to make policy decisions that protect the United States and its citizens. Getting involved with groups such as YAF is a great way to learn and get involved. We hope to impact those around us in a positive way by remembering each individual life through each flag the students plant.” – Kyle Poen, Chairman YAF at Iowa State.
All are welcome to help set up this memorial or observe it while it is up over the weekend.
